Mikrosil Comparison
Mikrosil (left)
Another 'sil'(right) |
Mikrosil
The finest tool mark casting material for forensic science
The Mikrosil has been developed to give good
rendering of small details, good contrast for microscopical observation,
good releasing ability for the cast, and short setting time. These
properties are of special importance in cases of very shallow marks
especially marks with small details, requiring large magnifications.
Magnifications up to 70 times are possible to achieve without interfering
with the material texture. Mikrosil comes in two parts; the basic and
the hardener. Equal lengths of both parts are mixed together between
30 seconds and 1 minute. When mixture begins to thicken it should
be applied within one minute. The setting time is approximately
6 minutes. Mikrosil does not stick to any surface except to itself.
Laboratory tests have shown that in many cases comparison
of Mikrosil casts of marks is often better than direct comparison
of those marks.
Mikrosil is available in four colours:
-brown (for general toolmark examination recommended)
-grey (for forensic armoury)
-black and
-white.
Black and white Mikrosil are recommended for print lifting after dusting
from difficult surfaces.
We keep all colours in stock for immediate delivery.

20 YEARS TECHNOLOGY EXCELLENCE IN HIGH QUALITY FORENSIC PRODUCTS SUPPORT:

Fluorogenic Amino Acids
Reagents
DFO (1,8-diaza-9-fluorenone)
DFO as a non specific amino acid reagent was introduced in mid 1989.
It reacts with amino acids and proteins to give a pale pink-purple coloured product
This product is highly fluorescent at room temperature, and does not require post-treatment
with metal salts. Being fluorescent it is much more sensitive than ninhydrin without
post-treatment. The best excitation can be achieved in the region from 505nm to 555nm.
Barrier filter can be selected from 565nm to 600nm according to excitation band.
Care should be taken to avoid overlapping. Recently DFO price has dramatically dropped down.
We tend to keep some amount of DFO for immediate delivery.
Indanedione
1,2 Indanediones were first synthesized as intermediates for preparation of ninhydrin
analogues by Professor Madeline Joullie and her post-graduate students Dr Diane Hauze
and Olga Petrovskaia from University of Pennsylvania. Common property of all indanediones
is that they develop latent fingerprints on paper with pale pink colour with strong
photoluminescence at room temperature. 1,2 Indanedione has good solubility property,
and produce photoluminescent prints comparable to DFO.
1,2 Indanedione is produced by BVDA and is available from Optimum Technology.
